astronomical unit
An astronomical unit (abbreviated: au or AU) is equal to the mean distance between the Earth and the Sun (92,900,836.17 miles or 149,598,770 kilometers). Most people might be familiar with the rough approximation of 93 million miles. The large distances within our Solar System are often given in astronomical units.
